헨리크 시엔키에비치의 쿠오바디스를 처음 접했던 것이 1995년 초등학교 6학년때의 여름방학이었다. 당시에 눈을 떼지 못하고 열중해서 읽었던 기억이 나는데 소설을 다 읽은 후에는 역사상 가장 훌륭한 소설을 다 읽어내고 더 이상 이만한 이야기를 만나기 힘들 것 같다는 사실에 눈물이 날 정도였다. 쿠오바디스는 모든 층의 학생들에게 추천하고 싶은 가장 훌륭한 소설이며 앞으로도 내 마음속의 가장 특별한 이야기로 남겨둘 것이다.

This is my first novel that I’ve read several times in a month. I rarely re-read any books, but The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseinis first novel is different from other books I’d read before.
이 소설은 내가 몇번씩이나 다시 읽게된 첫번째 소설이다. 나는 보통 같은 책을 두세번씩 읽지는 않지만 할레드 호세이니의 ‘연을 쫓는 아이’는 그동안 읽어온 책들과는 달랐다.
